When I first looked and learned that I was assigned to a class about the management of human resources I wondered what benefit the class would have

for me in my profession. As a Police Officer I deal with this aspect of the employment process very little. I am mostly just responsible for the

duties assigned to be, which rarely include any of the topics or issues handled by human resources professionals. However, as a former manager I did

find many interesting topics within this class. The labor laws and their origins were of interest to me, because I used to enforce and abide by those

laws but never knew where the regulations had come from. Additionally, it will be beneficial to me to have a more comprehensive understanding of the

different kinds of performance evaluations and benefits.
Discussion based collaborative learning is was a difficult concept for me to get behind at first. Especially in classes that directly relate to my

profession. I couldn’t help but think why I would need to hear what others have to say about these things. I already know a lot of this information.

However, the longer I participate in these types of discussions, the more I find that it helps me find an effective understanding of the subject

matter. Each individual thinks differently about any given subject and learning form one another is a great way to become proficient in a subject.
Since starting online classes I have had an issue with utilizing the information put forward in live chats. This started largely because of my

schedule, and not being able to attend live chats while they happen. Also I find it hard to set aside time to listen to the archived chats, although

they are always available. I think this is one area in which I could improve.

What were the most compelling topics learned in this course? My most compelling topic is the course itself. Just learning about HR with Prof. Roundy

made the whole course a good learning experience. She made learning this course fun by far one of favorite Professors yet.
How did participating in discussions help your understanding of the subject matter? Is anything still unclear that could be clarified? By coming

to live chat basically gave me more insight on the assignment. It also cleared up any questions I had or could have had..
What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information? This course is great with Prof. Roundy, I won’t change a thing, well maybe

more time. But will be it, I enjoyed the course learned a lot.
