Global Nutrition

Global Nutrition

Project description
Book: The Science of Nutrition, Third Edition, Thompson JL, Manore MM, Vaughan LA, 2012, Pearson/Benjamin Cummings (2nd edition is acceptable.)

Chapter: Global Nutrition

Your assignment is simply to research the nutrition and food service needs in your *community and write a 2 page report on the one that you would most like to serve. Determine what type of volunteer assistance you would like to or currently already engage in. Visit, call or link to the website to gain information. (You may also report on a real volunteer experience you have had or are currently engaged in if it pertains to nutrition.)

*Community refers to a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists…a school, children’s school, church, extended family, workplace etc.

Address the following questions about the place:

What is the name and intent of the organization, agency, school etc?

What are the goals?

How is funding secured?

Who is served and what is the need?

How many people are served every month?

Provide any other pertinent information about the organization.

Please provide the name, location, website and contact person if you spoke to an individual.

Explain the experience (either real or perceived):

What would your service activities look like?

What would you do?

Who would you serve?

How often would you deliver your services?

What would you provide the people who ultimately benefit?

What would you gain by volunteering?

What is the probability that you would be able to provide this service now or in the future? If food and nutrition volunteer work would not be your first pick, what volunteer work would you prefer?

Add any other interesting facts or ideas you have personally about the importance of volunteering and the need for food and nutrition community based services.
