Gender identity is a personal acceptance of oneself as male or a female. It is intimately related to gender roles and personality caused by physical appearances. Sexual identity therefore, can be defined as either acceptance or denial of physical traits that are manifested during birth. This paper aims at explaining the aspects of social, economic and cultural processes related to health and effects of trauma to the development of sexual identity. Sexual identity is a developmental aspect in adolescent children whereby they begin to embrace their sexuality together with other changes that takes place in their bodies.
