and students in higher education, being critical of a source is important. Let’s take our Burton

textbook, for example, and examine the author’s background.

Turn to page xv in the class text book and read “About the Author.” It is located in the

“Frontmatter” section of the textbook. What is it about the author’s background that informs his

presentation of clear cutting in the text? Do you think he would present clear cutting in same way

if he had been a professional educator in ecological education since 1967, for example.
