Focalidea

A learning style is a personal pattern of gathering and processing knowledge in different learning situations. The focalidea here is that different individuals have different ways of learning. Since the conception of learning styles, there has been a revolution on the education system with the system changing for good. The supporters of this system suggest that teachers and lecturers assess their students’ learning styles before embarking on the teaching process. This development will enable them gauge their student’sstrengths and weaknesses regarding particular learning style so that they may know what model is appropriate on which pupil. The implementation of learning styles has contributed to a better education system(Felder, 2002).

Discussion

Felder and Silverman(1988) advocated for students to learn in three fundamental ways i.e. seeing and hearing, acting and reflecting, reasoning, and memorizing. Themost important learning method that I would use would be hearing and seeing methods. This is the most common learning style that is relevant to many students. Learning starts from observing. Before a kid can talk, she/he can be able to observe various signs. This is a way of learning and hence an essentialone at that. Several students are able to decipher what they hear relating to experiences. The teacher is tasked with the responsibility of making sure that the students grasp what they teach by using example and explanations orally. These methods can be complemented by the use of visual implements that will help the students better their learning experience.

According to the Felder-Silverman model, students can be grouped into diverse classes according to their abilities. These groups include visual, active, sensing, and sequential learners. Visual learners learn well when visual elements such as pictures, charts, diagrams, et cetera are used. Whilst sensing/hearing learners prefer reading and hearing, what the lecturer teaches. These two types of students constitute the most number in schools and colleges. It is also a less complicated style of learning and as such most viable to many major institutions.Another reason this learning style is a preference is that the teachers like it. Most schools that mentor teachers teach them to use this method. Therefore, it is right to state thatthey have mastered the style well. It therefore, simplifies the process of imparting knowledge to the student body through these methods (Felder &Spurlin, 2005).

Peer support is the help that the students give to one another in the learning process while an older person preferably the teacher gives supervisor support. Education is a complicated process, and it is, therefore, critical that such support is given. There are three types of students, weak,moderate and those who are active. Peer support will entail those students who are able aiding the weaker students in the learning process. The aid will be felt since these students are on the same level and therefore they can relate. On the other hand, supervisor support is as critical since the teacher has more experience and can relate to many issues in concerning training. A supervisor can mentor the students one by one and can understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses. It, therefore, will help in which form of learning to apply about the student in question is hence ensuring success in the learning system (Litzinger et al., 2007).

Conclusion

Knowing which learning style to use on a particular student is an essential aspect in the learning and education process in every institution of learning. It is, therefore, important that appropriate learning styles be used for achievement of better results.
