There are five different types of building construction as classified by local building and fire codes. Each type has unique fire behavior and fire spread characteristics.

In your response discussion post list the following:

Paragraph #1 – Select one of the five types of construction used in the International Building Code (pages 94-96 of the text). Include the name and number of the construction type. In the first paragraph include a description of the construction type specifically describing the construction of the bearing walls, floor framing and the roof construction.
Paragraph #2 – Research the fire behavior/spread characteristics of the construction type you selected from an outside source (other than the text). In this paragraph describe how fire would spread throughout the type of construction. To receive credit for this post you must provide information from a source other than the text.
Paragraph #3 – Certain type of buildings or occupancies are usually built with certain type of construction. For example: Home Depot, Lowe’s, Costco etc. use a certain type of construction; high-rise buildings use a certain type of construction; mercantile buildings in a downtown area use a certain type of construction; residential buildings use a certain type of construction.- List the type of occupancies/buildings that you would expect would be constructed using the type of construction discussed.

At the end of your initial post include the citation for the source where you obtained the information.

Paragraph #1: Respond to their description of the construction type. Did they correctly describe the construction of the bearing walls, floor and roof? Can you add anything that would help them identify this type of construction at an incident or during an inspection?
Paragraph #2: Contrast the construction type that they described with one of the other five types. For example: If the student described Type I construction, respond to them by describing how Type I construction differs from Type III construction. In this description identify the difference in the bearing walls, floor and roof construction.
