In a test of his chromosome theory of heredity, Morgan crossed an (F1) female Drosophila with red eyes to a male with white eyes, cross (B). Morgan presumed the female was heterozygous for the X-linked recessive white-eye allele and that the male was hemizygous for white eye. The results of the cross were 129 red-eyed females, 132 red-eyed males, 88 white-eyed females, and 86 white-eyed males. Test these data by chi-square analysis, and determine if the results are consistent with Morgan’s hypothesis that Drosophila eye color is an X-linked trait.
A) Results are completely consistent with the hypothesis.
B) Results are not consistent with the hypothesis.
