Final Exam Essay
In recent years, we have all heard the increasing use of the term, hate crime. In consideration of this label which so few people fully understand, I have asked you to read two (2) complex essays written over the topic of hate crimes.
For your final exam essay, please construct an essay of approximately 500 to 750 words in which you explain the main points each author makes in the essays, Hate Crime / Thought Crime by Jesse Larner and Hate Crime Laws: Punishment to Fit the Crime by Michael Lieberman AND explain which author you agree with and why. You may use examples from current or past hate crimes as justification for your support, but if you do so, your examples should make sense in the context of the argument.
NOTE: You are not arguing hate crimes are bad. Both authors agree these crimes are atrocious. They simply disagree on whether a crime labeled a hate crime is worse than an equivalent crime and whether such crimes should be punished differently.
