Description: You will assemble, annotate and justify a collection of Australian films or television programmes intended for an exhibition.
Weighting: 60%
Relates to learning outcomes: 1, 2, & 4
Catalogue Brief ?You have been approached by a Cinémathèque to produce a catalogue which assembles, annotates and justifies a collection of Australian films or television programmes intended for an exhibition to showcase Australian film or television. The purpose of the catalogue is to introduce an audience to a specific Australian movie or television genre which demonstrates how each selected movies/programmes exemplifies, and fits into, this particular genre. The catalogue will demonstrate how these individual titles are distinctively Australian, or similar to an international genre but in an Australian content, and will frame them within a historical or contemporary context. ??
Requirements?

Following the above brief, develop a catalogue of 5 movies or 5 episodes* from different television/mini-series (accounting for the individual episode’s place in the overall series) that exemplifies one of the following genres: ? ?
• Crime?
• Horror or Ozploitation?
• Ocker Comedy/Comedy?
• Indigenous Australian films ?
• Australian soapies??
*For television programmes, you can include programmes from a minimum of 3 different series and a maximum of 2 episodes from the same series. ??

Introductory essay/catalogue rationale (1000 words*)?*The word lengths for each section are guides rather than formal requirements, but should give you a sense of the attention to pay to each section. ?

In your written exhibition catalogue, you should include a rationale for the exhibition which justifies and explains why this collection is important and/or distinctive in terms of:??
• Genre/style/characteristics/?
• o One or two key themes ?
• o Characteristics of the historical or contemporary period from which the movies/programmes are from ?
• o How these movies/programmes are uniquely Australian, or similar to international programmes but in an Australian context ??

Consider the following: ??
• If you develop a catalogue of titles across history, outline what unites these titles, or what similar issues they address.??
• Your catalogue can include a combination of film and television programmes so long as you justify how they both contribute to your chosen genre. ??
• Your catalogue should draw upon required/recommend readings, debate from lectures/tutorial discussions, and independent research (for example reviews/essays on particular movies). ?

Contextual/analytical review of each title (150- 200 words for each title)?Write a statement for each title which explains the nature of the movie or programme, why it has been included in your catalogue, and how it relates to your catalogue genre. ??

Filmography (not included in word count) ?Provide a filmography of the titles included in your catalogue which includes the following information: ??
• Movie/program title ?
• Year(s) of production?
• Director (of episode/movie)?
• Production Company ??

You should use www.imdb.com to develop your filmography. You do not have to cite IMDB.com for this material. The filmography can be a table, or a list, and should be an appendix at the end of your catalogue. ??

Reference list (not included in word count)?

• Your catalogue should draw upon a minimum of 5 sources – particularly considered reviews from professional critics (not reviews on blogs from unprofessional/unknown sources). ?
• You can cite lecture notes (maximum of 2), but independent research will result in higher grades. ?
• This assessment item is not an analytical essay. Therefore direct quotations, even indented direct quotations, will count towards your word total.?
• Do not use footnotes. If you do, they also count towards your word total. In addition, footnotes in a programming catalogue can be confusing to read, so it’s better not to use them at all.?
• You must acknowledge all sources of information and ideas through in-text citations and a references list. Use the University’s Harvard referencing guidelines at QUT cite|write (introductory guide to citing, referencing, and academic writing at QUT) www.citewrite.qut.edu.au?
• Reviews on IMDB.com should not be cited as a source. • Pictures are not required, but you can include them if you wish. ??Total Word length: 2000 words
