Between 1750 and 1850 the Industrial Revolution dramatically transformed life in much of Western Europe. Imagine that you are eighty years old in 1850, and that you are living in England (the

first country to experience industrialization ). In response to a request from local newspaper, you describe the social and economic changes that you have seen in your lifetime.
Where did your family live in 1770 when you were born? Where do you live now, eighty years later? Have you had the same job your whole life? Transportation? Politics? Are you better or worse

off? To answer this question properly you need to describe what social class and gender your character belongs to. (A woman might have a different experience with the Industrial Revolution

than a man; and a member of the working class would have a different perspective than a middle class person.)
You will probably want to consult the textbook and the collection of primary sources for detailed information about the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the lives of ordinary people.
