The effects of World war one can never be erased in the minds of those who were involved in the war either directly or indirectly. It had devastating effects on the political, economical and psychological effects in all the countries that were involved. When there is war between nations, development is hampered as the government directs all its resources to finance the war. These efforts usually end up draining the country’sresources and its economy is adversely affected. This essay will discuss the effects of the First World War in details.

The war led to the fall of four monarchies as pointed out by Robert wilde (2014).These monarchies include the German,Russian,Turkish and Austro-Hungarian empires that fought and were all swept by the defeat and the revolution. There was also a rise in socialistic ideas according to Stewart Ross (1997).These socialistic ideas spread not onlyin Turkey and Germany but also in Britain and France. The most popular government to gain influence was republic. It was evident that people were tired of bad governance and they wanted to live agood life. Another political effect was the way Germany was treated in the treaty of Versailles in 1919.Germany was forced to sign a treaty that it never wanted and it was forced to pay a lot of money to other countries as it was assumed that it was the one that started the war. Tension started building again in Germany and this led to the start of the Second World War 20 years later.

According to Steven mintz (2009), the war adversely affected the economy of the European countries and the United States became the world’s leading creditor and the industrial power. Inflation skyrocketed in many countries. The effect of reparation adversely affected the economy of Germany. European nations owed their allies over $10 billion in the postwar years. Much changed in the social front too, with men having gone to participate in the war, women assumed the role of men in many countries and took over businesses and establishments (Greenwald, M,W.1980). According to World map (anon, 2014) the only positive effect was the technological growth that was boosted by the rise in research and technology. There was marked growth in infrastructure, automobiles, wireless communication, weapons, aircrafts and extra.

According to Stewart Ross (1997)psychological effects of the war were much similar like those of a revolution. A sense of distrust towards political leaders and governmental officials pervaded the minds of the people who had witnessed the destruction and horror brought about by the war. Citizens were angered by the peacemakers and the government which failed to serve the interest of the citizens. The loss of loved ones is especially disturbing and they may not forget what happened. According to BBC (2014) after the treaty of Versailles that was meant to end the war, nations saw a need to form a league of nations to preach peace and prevent the occurrence of such devastating war.

The effects of the First World War cannot be taken for granted as seen throughout the essay. Manylives were lost during the war. Political effect was evidenced by the fall of the four mornachies.Economy was disrupted and there was a rise in inflation in all the countries that took part in the war. People were affected psychologically by the horrors they witnessed during the war. Positively, there was a rise in technology and people began using machines. Despite all those effects of the war people never learnt enough lessons from the devastating effects of the world war one.
