Education

Education
In his essay “The Seven Deadly Sins of Students,” Thomas H. Benton claims that pride is the biggest problem with college students today. He says that most college students think way too highly of themselves. Growing up around parents and teachers who constantly boost their self esteem, today’s college students tend to believe that they have unlimited potential and will one day become rich and famous, Benton argues. This attitude, he says, is the reason they squander “[an] opportunity to earn an education.”

In a well-developed, essay, respond to the following questions, using evidence to support your claim:

Is Thomas H. Benton’s portrayal of today’s college students as prideful accurate? Why or why not?

Does Peter Thiel’s fellowship help resolve the problem of prideful students? Or does it make the problem worse?
