Please read the following essay below and respond to the essay and elaborate in a 300 word count with 3 references no more than 3 years old including:Alligood, M. R. (2014). Nursing theory: Utilization and application (5th ed.). Maryland Heights, MO: Mosby Elsevier.Jean Watsons theory of caring is relevant in todays nursing practice because caring is an essential component of being a nurse. As todays nursing strives for quality of care, patient safety and patientcentered health care, Watsons theory incorporates the human aspect and transpersonal caring. Her theory essentially is about practicing kindness and authenticity, a relational care for self and others (Watson, n.d). Implementing this mindset into our practice will improve outcomes for the ill and contribute greatly to their journey to well-being.Jean Watsons theory utilizes the ten carative factors that are recommendations for patient-centered practice for nurses to reference. The ten caritas factors essentially discusses practicing with kindness, helping our patients and creating a trusting presence. By implementing these behaviors in todays care of our patients, we can achieve relationship building strategies that will improve beside care. One factor speaks of creatively using self and creating a healing environment (Alligood, 2014, p. 98). This can be demonstrated by personalizing hospital rooms to feel more like home, implement use of hospital IPADS to Skype distant family members, or celebrating a patients birthday by surprising them with balloons or cake. I have personally witnessed these strategies have a meaningful impact on patients of today. Another factor discusses engaging in genuine teaching-learning experience that attends to wholeness (Alligood, 2014, p. 98). Teaching is utilized every day in all aspects of the health profession as we teach our patients how to care properly for themselves, this is demonstrated every day, for example; diabetic teaching, nutrition, would management, self-administration of intravenous therapy. All clear examples of current educational and collaborative practice. Another element is being supportive of the expression of positive and negative feelings (Alligood, 2014, p. 99), our patients today open up to nurses routinely about their feelings and vulnerabilities. We have to take the time to listen in a nonjudgmental attitude and provide comfort and understanding. In todays society there are so many facets of responsibility, that illness can have a dramatic impact on ones life. There is financial concerns, employment, childcare, concerns of disability, and family, just to name a few. Providing emotional support is just another aspect of our responsibility today.Cultivating ones own spiritual practices (Alligood, 2014, p. 98), this is one of my current challenges today. There are now so many different types of religions and culture that we experience today, which we need to have a basic understanding to care properly for these patients. Our form of caring may not be conducive to their needs for healing. We may practice touch but to other cultures this is considered offensive. This particular factor, I feel, is most challenging for nursing of today, continued education and research will be an ongoing nursing practice.I believe I have demonstrated how Jean Watsons theory is used every day in our nursing practice. Our current practice model is about relationships, team and coordination to create an environment of health and healing. We can achieve this by creating a culture of safety and accountability by implementing Jean Watsons theory of caring into todays practice.ReferencesAlligood, M. R. (2014).
