Question #1: My paper studies Kanye West and the construction of hegemonic masculinity. Hegemonic masculinity is a specific term. How would you expand the idea of hegemonic masculinity? Except describing the women’s subordination to men and man as hero, does any other relationship or comparison embody the concept of hegemonic masculinity?

Question #2: My paper is about how Kanye portrays himself as a higher power. I am seeing that he also could be considered a hero and was wondering if anyone else thinks this and if I could tie the hero’s journey into Kanye’s career? I was thinking about when he left the states and lived around the world to be surrounded by new people and places, and then came back. It seems to relate to the departure, fulfillment, return points that Joseph Campbell talks about.

Question #3: So I’m writing my paper on how Kanye sets himself up as an individual of many identities (including a divine figure), kind of like the composite beings we read about. My only question is really what songs people would suggest to look into (other than Monster)? I changed computers and my collection of Kanye’s music has really depleated since. So any suggestions would be great. Or if anyone has any suggestions of what kind of mythological identities I should look into that’d be extremely helpful!
