Writing a Mini Academic Research Paper on a Multimedia Topic
In relation to each of the set assessment criteria, identify the areas in which you feel you have strengths and those in which you need to improve. Provide evidence to support your self-assessment with reference to the content of your assignment.
a. Traditional lectures are boring. Is there a way in which multimedia can be used to make them more interesting? Research whether this statement is true and assuming it is suggest feasible ways with which multimedia can enhance lectures. (Feasible in this context means something that I and other lecturers in this school can do, not something that requires the budget and expertise of a hollywood movie!).
b) Is there a future left for Multimedia? In the late 80s and 90s multimedia, as a topic, became very important. With the proliferation of new technologies, multimedia computers, broadband, various portable devices encompassing digital cameras etc, which make things easier for everyone to capture and manipulate media files, has or will this situation change.
c. Digital video has made everyone a movie maker. Decent quality movie cameras start at £200 nowadays and movie editing software for even less. Can anyone today make a hollywood movie/pop video/tv movie?
d. Mobile phones, tablets, desktop computers, smart TVs. What does the glass ball say about which one of these technologies will remain?
e. Facebook is dehumanizing the behaviour of young adults. Is there any truth in this statement? Are there any benefits from using facebook? In terms of making humans more human?
f. Can multimedia forms of assessment (exams, tests etc) provide a more accurate and fair way of testing student abilities/skills?
c) describe research, articles, papers, experiments that support the theory or statement of the topic you have chosen.
d) Describe similar type material that speaks against the theory or statement, or gives alternative theories/arguments.
e) discuss your own views on the topic, supported by your primary research (for example, observations, surveys, interviews or experiments you have made.)
