DISCRIMINATION
Paper instructions:
In this paper you are asked to describe and analyze two incidents in which you were personally involved in which you were (1) the victim of discrimination and (2) the perpetrator of discrimination. Analysis should include your assessment of why these incidents occurred and the perceived motivation/reaction of both parties to these incidents. In your paper conclusion you should include a discussion of common threads (if any) you discovered in analyzing these two incidents.
DISCRIMINATION is defined as an act of differential treatment toward a group or an individual perceived as a member of a group. Moreover, the intent and/or effect of differential treatment is to create a disadvantage of some sort (William M. Newman, American Pluralism, New York: Harper & Row, 1973, p. 199).
PREJUDICE is defined as an avertive or hostile attitude toward a person who belongs to a group and is, therefore, presumed to have the objectionable qualities ascribed to that group (Gordon Allport, The Nature of Prejudice, New York: Doubleday & Company, 1958, p. 8).
