Decision making (in business)

Decision making is significant for any business establishment. It represents an inner force that shapes success and identity of a company. Effective decision making, however, plays an important role for a company to facilitate better business productivity. Such communication stratagem actually boosts existing working relationships of the people who are either directly or indirectly associated with the business process. May it be at micro-level or macro-level, effective decision affects the base of a company that can make or mar its future. Due to apt importance, such decision is made by consulting other members of a company. It is quite evident that every year a number of companies mark their inception but, not all of them survive fierce competition present outside in the market. It is because effective decision making process actually affects the survival and even future of companies. The present paper attempts to present an in-depth oversight of the importance of effective decision making through two diverse areas of ‘evaluation’ and ‘conflict management’ that boots peoples’ working relationships for better outcomes and productivity. Also, it would illustrate two examples of each these areas from real world to analyse how people make effective decisions that in turn affects the whole business set-up. Both the terms represent two vital areas for effective decision making that in turn augments growth of a company.

The concept of evaluation is very vital for any kind of business operation. It represents one of the basic areas in business process that influence effective decision making. Evaluation has rich scholarship for research that can open new horizons for better implementation. Of course, it would not be wrong to mention that evaluation starts through a defined procedure of analysis. Its development is quite natural because it attempts to take an in-depth look about the company’s progress-profit profile. Its development is based on apt responsibility of the associated people who actually later participate or create a favourable environment for engaging effective decision making. This means that evaluation tries to draw many queries through investigation about the pros and cons of the business establishment. Such questions are later contested to come up with appropriate solution through the process of effective decision making. Critical thinking is one of the aspects that could lead to rich evaluation of any business process (Addis, Dwyer, Sandra, 2008). This illustrates that just as business is one of the basic elements of a society and civilizations, critical thinking is one of the significant facets of evaluation strategy. Adopting better business strategies marks better growth of business that can be identified through evaluation (Pettinger, 2013). This shows that evaluations illustrate a clear picture of business outcomes, profits, and losses.

Described in this paragraph are two examples form real life which gives a clear account of effective decision making through evaluation. Joseph Roth, national director of public affairs at IKEA, stated that their company evaluated better locations for sustainability around the world. They not operate from stores only but, they defined distribution centers for better service. The decision was actually to offer installation equipment’s to third parties and that broadened the scope of their business (Hudgins, 2011).  This is significant because evaluation carried out by the company boost the operation of the company. Roth along with his colleagues actually analysed the need of their business and came up with the decision that marked effective decision making which played quite a good role in expanding the impact of their company globally. The second example that is discussed in this paper includes the operational strategies of Gulfstream Aerospace, The Company evaluates its cost work culture, and profits consistently that gives them a definite structure of company’s progress. The company is planning to cut more than 1100 jobs in the coming season to refresh reassess their operational strategies. This exemplifies that such decision, of course, depends on the evaluation of the company on its diverse areas to plan better for it (McMillin, 2015).

Conflict management is one of the broad concepts of business studies. It is mainly associated with smooth functioning of the business operation. It represents one of the important facets of effective decision making. This illustrates that conflict management takes the people into account who are either directly or indirectly associated with the business. Specifically speaking, its concern mostly lies on the employee population of the business along with indirect stake-holders. Basic business and communication skills prove very fruitful for effective decision making. Such strategies influence the relationships of the people associated (Gramsbergen-Hoogland, Yvonne, Henk, 2005). Also, conflict management is broad in its application. Besides regional demographics, it takes society and culture in which the company operates into consideration. This explains that the conflict management concept tries to manage the fruitful business aura by respecting and considering its peoples’ traditions and demands (White 2007). An employer trusts his or her employees till both respects each other’s’ decisions and forte. This is vital because the conflict management concept promotes company’s culture which in turn develops their outlook towards effective decision making.

Conflict management represents an apt understanding of any type of conflict or hardship faced by a company that hinders its progress in some way. A conflict management specialist carries an in-depth evaluation of the prevailing conflict so that he or she can help to take a fruitful decision for the company. This explains why it is important here to completely understand the issues which arise due to the company’s existing policies and the specialist actually analyses its causes so that an effective decision can be taken for better. Nadwa is working as Senior program Manager at National Democratic Institute. Her work involves interaction with people especially men who live traditional values and are conservative (Al-Sakkaf, 2009). The culture of Yemen is very different form that of ours because of cultural constraints that exist within their society. However, they respect and protect women and that is why Nadwa always gets easy access to find out about them. Nevertheless, she misses many other things because she would be allowed to go everywhere like in qat chews. She is doing great by discussing public affairs and she was awarded with Golden star Award from the NCIV in DC in February, 2008 for the work she is doing in Yemen. This clearly shows that her strategies are very interesting and inspiring especially for women that gave her a definitive identification in Yemen. The conflict management theory has comes with broad implementation. This is imperative because it actually attempts to create better opportunities to meet the needs of the company or to make progress by evaluating and addressing issues prevailing. This is what they did at Mayo clinic. Right form the day of its inception the organization emphases on “not on the individual, but achievement through others” (Peters, et. al, 2014). This illustrates that such strategy would help in effective decision making or even the strategy is itself an ‘effective decision’ to change the fate of the company.

Evaluation and conflict management plays an important role in effective decision making which in turn affects the success, growth, and sustainable future of the company. The two areas are central to the process of effective decision making. These areas have direct effect on the overall business of the companies. The above mentioned real world examples facilitated better understanding of evaluation and conflict management within the business world.
