Customer Service

Customer service in the smartphone industry is an important factor. Smartphones come already pre-installed with many applications that regular buyers may not know how to use them. Therefore, each company must have the appropriate customer service to help the customers with the instructions. Customer care may also deal with repair and warranty issues. These are rather important issues as smartphones always have a problem at some point. The customer service representatives should be courteous and have some knowledge about the gadget so that they can be helpful to the customers. It is also important that they act professionally towards the customers and respond to their issues promptly. The customer needs should be cared for at all times and all their questions and issues answered in a timely manner. If gadgets are taken for repairs, they should offer the customers an alternative or repair it very fast. Customer service that the customers are given by the company will determine whether the customers will return for another product or not.

Many companies now deal with smartphones. Some of the most common and top players in the market include, Nokia, Blackberry, Apple, Samsung, HTC and Motorola. In the customer service area, Nokia ranks the highest. They are always quick to answer questions from the customers and repair their gadgets very fast whenever they are returned to the company. They have courteous staff that ensures that the needs of the customers are met. The next in line is the Apple Company they also respond relatively fast in customer complaints and repair their devices fast. Samsung is a bit slower than the other two, but this could be understandable since they have the largest share of the market owing to their wide range of devices. The other companies follow closely in the following order: Blackberry, HTC and Motorola. Their customer services are not as efficient as the top three companies. Therefore, the ranks of the companies are as follows: Nokia, Apple, Samsung, Blackberry, HTC and Motorola.

Quality of Product

The quality of products plays a huge role on what the customers will choose. Most customers prefer to have value for their money. They will probably want to have a gadget that will serve them for a very long time and is efficient in its operations. In terms of smartphones, customers will prefer a gadget that can accommodate as many applications as possible that may be useful to them. Some of the qualities that customers will look out for in a smartphone include the internal memory of the phone. A huge memory is a good thing as the customers will be able to store most of their documents, songs and even videos in their phones. If the memory part has been compromised, then the manufacturer needs to have a memory card slot. The other issues that most customers look out for is the RAM. The RAM determines what applications can run on the phone and how fast the phone will be in running its operations. The camera should have a high focus resolution that will take good and clear picture. However, when it comes to smartphones, everyone has their own preferences as some people may be willing to compromise on the storage but not on the camera and some people might be willing to sacrifice the camera but not the RAM. It all boils down to individual tastes.

On this issue, the number one company is the Apple. Apple smartphones have limitless capabilities with high internal memories. Their services are very efficient, and very fast. There are very few complaints regarding smartphones in this area. The next company is Samsung. Samsung has a wide range of smartphones with differing prices. The quality of Samsung smartphones is also high, and because of this, they have such a large share of the market. Next in line is Nokia. Nokia has very good quality phones. Nokia smartphones are very long lasting and usually, they outlive the interest of the customer. The rank of the smartphone companies is as follows; Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Blackberry, HTC and finally Motorola.

Features

The features of a phone largely determine whether the customer is going to purchase it or not. However, this is specific to an individual’s tastes and preferences. Most smartphone users use their phones for accessing the internet, for taking pictures, for storing their documents and music, for keeping their diaries and if the phone can handle all these and much more, the more suitable it is for the individual. People nowadays prefer to have all the information at a go wherever they are and at any time and, therefore, the smartphone gives them the convenience of having such. Younger users tend to do more with their smartphones than the older generation. The older generation will mostly use their smartphones for storing their documents and other business duties. A younger user, on the other hand, will use their phones for songs, videos, a few games and maybe a few other applications. The need for the features also depends if the person is entering into the market for the first time or if they want an upgrade on their phones. A person who wants an upgrade will want more features while a person who is entering into the market will require basic stuff on their phones. Their needs are totally different.Another important issue to consider in the features is if they can be upgraded or if they remain constant over a long period. Customers will prefer to have the latest upgrades of all the features of the phones. For instance, a customer would prefer to buy a phone with android 4.2.2 over a phone with an operating system of android 2.3.6.

On the features category, competition is quite high among the companies as each one of them is always coming up with the latest technology in their phones. They are always launching a new model that has better features than the one they released last. However, the Apple will still be number one in this category as their phones have limitless capabilities. The phones will rank as follows when it comes to the features: Apple, Samsung, Blackberry, Nokia, HTC and Motorola.

Pricing

The prices of the smartphones will play a very huge role in the decision that the customer will make regarding the brand. Some people will be willing to spend so much on a smartphone while others just prefer to have the convenience of a smartphone without having to spend so much on the phone. It all rides on the ability of an individual to buy a certain product. A well paid executive may be able to afford the most expensive smartphone that is available, but a teenager will want a smartphone that he or she can afford and still enjoy the benefits of having a smartphone. It is a common misconception that the higher the price of a smartphone, the more features that it has. Therefore, people will always strive to have the most expensive smartphone even if they can barely afford them because of peer pressure. It is however very difficult to keep up with this trend as the companies are always launching another phone. If someone is always buying the latest smartphone, they will be caught up in a dangerous cycle. Since most people cannot afford to have the best smartphone, the companies have come up with a wide range of smartphones so that they can reach even the people who are not very rich.

In the case of pricing, Apple is without doubt the most expensive smartphone. Apple has not diversified its range of smartphones and every smartphone is an improvement of the preceding one. Only the rich people can afford them. Samsung is number two on the list. It has some of the most expensive phones. However, Samsung has diversified its range of smartphones, and there are very expensive phones and others are affordable. Nokia comes next in line. They are more affordable than the first two. The most expensive brands may not necessarily have the best features, but they also use the good name of the company to sell the product. The rank in this category would be Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Blackberry, HTC and Motorola.

Marketing

Marketing of a product makes the customer more aware of the product. A company that takes a lot of time to advertise their products will always have a good number of customers even if their products are not so good. A company that does very minimal marketing, on the other hand will have very few customers since only a few people know that the product exists. The customer would not buy something that they have not heard about. It is therefore important that the companies have their products known by the people and to have a wide coverage so that they could get more customers. Companies have a lot of options when it comes to marketing their smartphones. They only need to invest in the marketing department for a lot more profit. Campaigns can be done through television commercials, product promotion strategies, fliers and radio commercials. Hiring a celebrity to launch a product may also be a good idea. The aim of marketing is to make the customer aware of the smartphone and to ensure that the customer has as much details as possible about the smartphone as possible.

Every company has their own goals for marketing. Nokia has the best advertising and marketing strategy. It is common to see commercials for Nokia all the time. Nokia is closely followed by Samsung smartphones. Samsung is always marketing for its new products, and they even have fliers that people can read to know more about their products. Apple runs their advertisements on television. Apple is such hyped products that people get to know about it just from the launch. It, therefore, does not need to do much advertising. The rank in the marketing area is; Nokia, Samsung, Apple, Blackberry, HTC and finally Motorola.
