Critical Business Ethics In Global Workplace Human Relations

Critical Business Ethics In Global Workplace Human Relations

it is an International Human Resource Coursework. I am meant to read chapter 5 of human resource management in a global context by Robin Kramar & Jawad Syed to explain the 5 perspective.

Preamble:
Credit Suisse admits guilt over tax evasion, fined $2.8 billion
By: Mitchell Neems From: Business Spectator Date: May 20, 20149:35AM
CREDIT Suisse has admitted guilt to one criminal charge of aiding and abetting tax evasion, the first time the US has extracted a guilty plea from a major bank in two decades.

.

The Swiss bank was hit with $US2.6 billion ($2.81 billion) in fines in the years-long probe into banks making a business out of helping their clients evade US taxes.
United States Deputy Attorney General James Cole has confirmed the department’s investigation into the use of illegal offshore bank accounts at Credit Suisse had resulted in a

.

historic guilty plea by the bank and the largest monetary penalty of any criminal tax case ever.
Mr Cole said the guilty plea was an appropriate resolution given the duration and breadth of Credit Suisse’s conduct.
Credit Suisse engaged in serious wrongdoing, first, when it aided and abetted US tax evasion, and then when it failed to take immediate steps to remedy this conduct and cooperate in our investigation,

.

he said.
Mr Cole said Credit Suisse’s agreement to pay fines and restitution in excess of $US2.5 billion reflects both the significance of the problem at the bank and the bank’s acceptance of responsibility for it.
The single felony charge filed in the federal district court in Alexandria, Virginia said Credit Suisse did unlawfully, voluntarily,

.

intentionally, and knowingly conspire to help US citizens prepare and file false income tax returns.
The Justice Department said the Swiss bank helped people hide incomes in sham nominee accounts, destroyed account records, and hand-delivered money from the accounts to help clients avoid taxes.
The announcement of the guilty plea came after US justice authorities have come under great criticism for not prosecuting large banks especially for acts that led to the 2008 financial crash.

.

This case shows that no financial institution, no matter its size or global reach, is above the law, US Attorney-General Eric Holder said.
When a bank engages in misconduct that is this brazen, it should expect that the Justice Department will pursue criminal prosecution to the fullest extent possible, as has happened here.
The Justice Department said it had indicted eight Credit Suisse bankers over the longstanding program to aid US taxpayers avoid taxes by using offshore accounts.

Task:

In Chapter 5 of their text, Kramar and Syed (2012:115) contend that the meaning of ethics does not lie solely in within the object; rather – and here is the contentious proposition – ethics relates to the subject who observes ethics . In other words, different ethical norms derive from different conceptions of human nature.

.

With this assertion and the article A Story Makes A Difference in mind, critically discuss how the five ethical frameworks presented here would interpret the situation: Credit Suisse admits guilt over tax evasion, fined $2.8 billion in terms of corporate business ethics and morals in the global workplace.

.

• A utilitarian perspective
• A rights perspective
• A virtue perspective
• A care perspective
• A non-essentialist perspective
In your responses, be sure to comment on:

• ethical relativism, ethical absolutism and ethical pluralism.
