I reviewed Apple’s website privacy policy which is available at www.apple.com/privay/. The statement I found interesting in this website is the statement explaining to the viewer that the company may disclose his or her information in some circumstances specified and others not specified in the website. Some of the situations the website has listed are very general and may not be understandable. For example, that the company can disclose personal information when it finds it necessary. This is a very general statement. It is upon the company to determine when it is necessary. It is a fact that an individual will not be consulted when it will be found necessary to disclose their personal information. The company will make a biased decision against the individual to protect its interests.

Another reason I find this statement funny and interesting is because at the beginning of the privacy policy statement, the company states that an individual’s information will be kept confidential. Giving a general condition when they can disclose one’s information, therefore, sounds contradictory. This is because there are no specifics in a general statement like ‘when it deems necessary’. Nevertheless, the company gives some of the specific reasons why it may disclose personal information, like legal requirements. But the act that there is a general statement binding someone, and then I am made to believe that my information will no longer be confidential once I provide it here.

Before this assignment I have had read several privacy policies of websites. I have been required to provide my personal information in several site especially where am required to log in. I am always very careful while accessing these websites because I have been severally the very victim of internet conmanship. One incident I remember was that I was required to provide my phone number at a particular site in order to watch a movie. I was directed that the reason for providing the phone number was that they were running a promotion for the customer who visit their site. What followed was bad news. From that point, I could be deducted fifty percent of my airtime whenever I toped up my prepay cellphone.

Part II: Social networks

Social networks are good. They are not only good, but beneficial. This is because we use them for several beneficial purposes. Socializing with peers is the most important benefit that we get from social sites. It is possible to meet friends that we already know, and also to make new friends. We use them to learn new things, and also to learn how people are thinking. We have used them to get business running as well as for educational purpose. On the other hand, social sites have the bad side. They are playing the greatest part in the spread of vices that are undesirable in the society. Some of these vices include immorality.

The article ‘Top 10 Most Absurd Social Networks’ by Jennifer L. DeLeo, offers a very comprehensive critical analysis of social networks. While I agree with Jennifer that some of the sites have focused so much on degrading humanity, I will refute that this is perpetuated by all social networks. Take, for example, Facebook. It is the user who determines how they want to use the site. Some have wasted their time in Facebook viewing useless sites, while others have minted millions with legal business in Facebook. They use it as a means of advertising.

Part III: Threading

Information system is a term which refers to a system that is computer-based, devised to support the decision functions, management and operations of an organization. Decision makers, therefore, rely on information systems. Components of information systems are decision support systems, management information systems, strategic information systems and transaction processing systems. A system is a set of components while information is a set of data.

To create a thread, you need a method or a function which will act as your entry point. This must be an available routine. To create a thread, for example using the NSThread, you usually detach a new thread, and then you name the method, the selector. This is the one you would like to use as the entry point of the thread, or the object defining the method, plus if you have any data you can pass is to the thread start up. Part IV

Some of the bad things that happen with online communication are time wasting like in Facebook, distractions by other things, probability to communicate personal information to people you don’t know, being conned, you may not be knowing the identity or the intentions of the person on the other end and promotion of laziness. On the other hand, good things in online communication are that it is a source of knowledge, news, games and hook-ups.

There are practices that make one communicate effectively in the internet. These are a low tone, being a forgiving person, speaking with the right tone, being clear on what you want, being brief and respecting the person on the other end. On the other hand, speaking with a high tone of disrespect will be a barrier to communication.

Part VI

PowerPoint presentation does not mean a good presentation. It needs to be spiced up with good presentation skills for it to make an impact. Good tips that make power point a good presentation are: you write a script and proofread it, be on time for the presentation, do not include paragraphs in your presentation, use images to spice up the presentation, explain beyond hat is in the presentation and ask questions so as to be with the audience.

Generally, a good presentation encompasses the following: the font size should be readable from a distance, the text should be kept simple and short, art can be used to convey the message, charts and graphs are labelled for understanding, use correct grammar and maintain an eye contact with the audience. The presenter should prepare in advance and should be smart. The presenter also should be familiar with the content.
