Comparison of Two Works along the Lines of Theme Project

Composition 1: Comparison of Two Works along the Lines of Theme Project 1 Task: Choose a story and a poem that we have read, and compare and contrast the two works based on a theme you have been working on in the course. Remember that a theme is an idea, principle, or quality that underlies the actions, characters, and settings of the story or poem. Excellent projects will have a clear main idea that links the works and the theme, sufficient textual support, correct use of MLA documentation, and adherence to conventions of academic writing. Audience and purpose: Your objective is to use evidence to support your analysis of two works. Your audience is your instructor. Research and evidence: You need only draw from the texts that you have read in LIT for this project. However, in order to illustrate your theme, you may also use other materials. Steps toward success: 1) Complete all the readings. 2) Take advantage of the process: as you read through one of the works, notice how you are reacting to certain word choices, certain recurrences, where you have been surprised, how you were led to expect one thing but were confronted by another. 3) Again, avoid just summarizing the plot of the works you have read; point out where there is significance in the descriptions, actions, etc. 4) Checklist: Length: 1000 words, not including source documentation.
