Complete a Cross-Cultural Analysis:
The comparative method is a search for comparable culture patterns in multiple societies, particularly the comparison of cultural traits taken out of cultural context. There are two main goals of cross-cultural analysis: to describe the range and distribution of cultural variation existent in the subject body. The point of cross-cultural analysis is to compare different cultures.
1. Choose a local cultural event to attend (get approval from the instructor).
2. Include the name of the event and the date it took place:
e.g. Event: Table Mountain Pow Wow (June 26 & 27, 2013)
3. Attend the event, make observations and respond to the following: Describe an event you observed that provides a window on cross-cultural issues. Collect fact and opinions about interactions you observe – list them. Describe and analyze three of the different behaviors you observe, according to cultural attributes. Observe both verbal and non-verbal behavior to gain insight into the customs, attitudes or values of this other cultural group. Describe the non-verbal behaviors. Describe the cultural diversity present at the event.
