Catonsville Nine
Daniel Berrigan, in lines that resonate almost fifty years after the Catonsiville Nine action, wrote: “Our apologies good friends for the fracture of good order the burning of paper instead of children…We say killing is disorder and life and gentleness and community and why they acted in this way. Following that, please write about one or two of the Catonsville Nine whose words moved you and tell me why. Daniel Berrigan, who recently died, gave his entire life to the work of peacemaking here and now. What do you think the “new order” he speaks of in the lines quotes above would be like? How will you act to make this new order possible?
