Case Analysis:
You are required to prepare four case analyses.
Written assignments submitted to a drop box on or before the Friday they are due and will be graded by 11:59 p.m. by Sunday of that week.
Length of paper: 5-6 pages (not including the cover sheet or reference list), 11 or 12- point font, double-spaced.
The purpose of the analysis is to demonstrate how well you have read the case, identified the real issues, analyzed the data, and formulated your own recommendations.
Critical thinking means making reasoned judgments based on evidence; analysis breaks down something into parts and a discussion of those parts. Simply creating a list of facts and figures does not indicate critical thinking or thoughtful analysis.
Document is formatted appropriately per APA 6th edition formatting rules and is free of punctuation, spelling, grammatical and capitalization errors. Word choice is strong, varied and appropriate for the subject matter and genre. The document includes a proper cover sheet, running head, Level I, II, III, etc. headings, in-text citations, and references.
All sources are correctly cited, are listed in the References section of the document, and are formatted per APA 6th edition formatting rules. All sources are credible, authoritative, timely, and relevant to support the main thesis.
Do not use the blogs or other editable Internet sites as references. Every reference is cited at least once in the document. The references list consists of only those documents that have been cited in the paper. Sources more than three years old are not considered to be timely. Please read the definition of plagiarism in the Student Handbook and become familiar with the policy on plagiarism.
If the content of the paper is poorly developed or if the paper is poorly written, referenced, punctuated and/or grammatically insufficient, it will be returned without a passing grade. You will then have the option to re-write the paper but the highest grade you can receive for the re-write is a C (you can receive less than a C). When you receive your graded paper, you will have seven calendar days from that date to submit the re-written paper. The re-written paper must be handed in at the next class meeting (or, for an online class, uploaded to the assignment drop box).
• If the paper is still insufficient after the second pass, you will receive no credit for the assignment.
• If a paper has been plagiarized in any way, you will receive no credit, no second chance.
• APA Formatting
• You must use the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th Edition style format for your written assignments (including the References section at the end of your paper) to receive full credit. If this type of formatting and citation style is new to you, please visit https://www.dianahacker.com/resdoc. APA Guidelines and a sample marketing plan that uses APA style are posted in the Content section of the course under “APA Format Help.” Another helpful site is the Purdue Online Writing Lab https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/. It is your responsibility to learn how to cite and format your paper properly.
Format and grading rubric for Case Analysis Assignments
Points Topic
5 Introduction: introduces and summarizes the case analysis
15 Situation analysis: what is happening in the case? What are the most important pieces of information and implications? Provide the logic that leads to the definition of the problem. This section includes an analysis of the 4 C’s ( category, customer, competitor, and company factors). When discussing tactics, you may find it helpful to analyze the marketing mix: product, price, place, and promotion. Positioning should also be considered.
5 Problem definition: this section should be the conclusion of your thinking process from the previous section. What is the central issue or problem at hand? While this is the core of your analysis, the section should be brief (i.e., 2-3 sentences)
15 Analysis of alternatives: list and examine various options to fix the problem. You can’t do them all, so identify and analyze the pros and cons of each option.
10 Recommendation: imagine yourself in the role of manager making a detailed recommendation to your superior. Your recommendation should “fall out” of the analysis from the previous sections. There shouldn’t be any surprises at the end, and NO NEW INFORMATION should be introduced in this section.
Reminder: The purpose of the analysis is to demonstrate how well you have read the case, identified the real issues, analyzed the data, and formulated your own recommendations.
Critical thinking means making reasoned judgments based on evidence; analysis breaks down something into parts and a discussion of those parts. Simply creating a list of facts and figures does not indicate critical thinking or thoughtful analysis.
