Purpose: The development of a formal paper will provide the student an opportunity to use critical thinking in communicating all facets of an issue affecting professional nursing.Objectives:
At the completion of this project, the student will:1. explain an issue in professional nursing practice.
2. incorporate a theory in describing the selected issue.
3. engage in critical thinking to present a problem and solution of selected issue by researching the issue and presenting information in an organized paper using nursing research and evidence based practice to support conclusions.Directions:
1. Choose an issue & obtain approval from faculty.
2. Research the topic citing at least 3 current (within the past 5 years) professional nursing research and evidence based practice articles and two other professional sources (social sciences, aging studies, etc.) other than a current nursing textbook for a total of 5 sources minimum.
3. Submit an outline of the paper to the faculty if feedback is desired.
4. Discuss the health, economic, social and political impact of this issue on professional nursing practice.
5. Introduce the topic thoroughly to the reader.
6. Evaluate the impact of this issue on nursing care outcomes using recommendations that would follow the nurse theorist chosen.
7. Describe professional nursing roles and advocacy/health promotion roles in responding to the issue.
8. Outline how the issue impacts nursing care of the population or how nursing can impact the issue effecting the population. Be pro-active, think outside the box, and/or explore some initiatives that are innovative in meeting the client needs.
9. Submit a scholarly prepared paper (typed, double-spaced, appropriate spelling and grammar, APA format-must include a title page and reference list that are not included in the page requirement) in a logical, organized manner including an introduction, body, and summary via course Moodle assignment drop box to course faculty. The length of the paper should be no less than 6-7 pages and no more than 15 pages.
10. Write a paper to clearly communicate to the reader information, proposed intervention/solution, and conclusions to the issue selected.
