Assignment: Write a three-page, double-spaced book report on the book, What Do You Do With A Child Like This? Inside the lives of Troubled Children, by L. Tobin.
Use #12 Times New Roman (as used on this page) or Arial font. All written assignments must include a heading in the upper-left-hand corner of the first page. Single space heading, and include: your name, course, assignment, and date. Writing helps are included in the Course Documents section in CANVAS. When quoting from the book, be sure to include the page number, example: (pg 57) after your quote.
Include the following in your report:
Introduction: Write an introductory paragraph which includes basic information about the book: Title (underlined or in italics), Author, and Publication Information; and a brief (1-2 sentences) introduction or overview of the book.
Body: There are two main parts for this area:
1. Explanation: Provide a general overview of the author”s purpose, main points, and how the author presents the main ideas and the important conclusions. Do not try to summarize each chapter. Choose the ones that are most significant and interesting to you.
2. Opinions: In this section, analyze or critique the book. Write about your own opinions, just be sure you explain and support them with examples. Some questions to consider:
•Did the author achieve his or her purpose?
•Is the writing effective, powerful, difficult, etc.?
•What are the strengths and weaknesses of the book?
•Do you agree with the author”s arguments and conclusions?
•What is your overall response to the book?
Conclusion: Briefly conclude by pulling your ideas together. You may want to say what impression the book left you with, or emphasize what you want others to know about it. This final paragraph is usually about four sentenc
