Biology (and other Life Sciences)

. Introduction: Start with a leading sentence or sentences that bring(s) the reader in and also introduces them very generally to the topic of small RNAs and gene expression and the significance of this topic. At some point the introduction also needs to describe what was known about RNAi before your selected paper was published—what was the state of the field, and what were the most pressing questions at the time. You will need to first briefly describe RNAi to introduce the topic. The introduction may require one paragraph or two.

2. Main body of paper: This part should include several paragraphs that describe and highlight the aim(s) and most important results from the paper you choose to highlight, making sure to transition smoothly between paragraphs and to explain how the experiments were done and why the results were so important with respect to understanding the mechanism of RNAi. This part of this paper should provide a little more experimental detail. But be careful about the kind of details that you include.

3. Conclusion/summary: This part should contain one or two paragraphs in which you explain how your highlighted paper advanced the state of the field, and in which you spotlight the key questions that remained at that time. Looking ahead is always a good way to end this type of article.

Some additional points on things you should focus on:

Content—did you summarize the data accurately? Did you choose the most important
results to highlight?

Organization—it is structured in a logical manner?

Transitions—is each paragraph logically and smoothly connected to the preceding and/or following paragraph?

Grammar and spelling will affect your grade, but will have less weight than the scientific information you are conveying and the strength of your arguments.
