Bad News Messages
Date your letter January 15
You are the manager of the Daytona 100, a 100-room hotel in Daytona, Florida, that caters to business-people. It is located across the street from the beach and has none of the amenities that a resort hotel might have. For example, there is no Tiki Hut, no DJ, no lazy river, etc.
You’ve received a reservation from Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity at the University of Cincinnati to rent 15 double rooms during the college’s spring break (March 17-23). The fraternity has offered to send a $3,000 deposit to guarantee the rooms if necessary.
.
As a former Alpha Kappa Psi member yourself, you believe that these fraternity members are responsible students who would probably cause no problems. You also recognize that when these students graduate and assume positions in industry, they are the very type of people you hope will stay at your hotel. Because of previous bad experiences, however, you now have a strict policy against accepting reservations from student groups.
Write to the Alpha Kappa Psi treasurer (Scott Rowan), 40 Stratford Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45221), conveying this information. Create an address in Daytona for the location of the Daytona 100 and include all appropriate information in either the signature box or in letterhead.
