Arts Assessment Strategies

This assessment item has two parts, you are to complete both parts of this assessment task, both part (a) and part (b). The sample assessment items for part (a) of this task are to be found in the additional file to be uploaded.

Part a) (500 words)
Read and select ONE of the scenarios (in resources). This part of the assessment item requires you to articulate how you approach the teaching of this creative arts class. In your response indicate how you would approach the teaching of the first lesson: Your response must include the following;
€¢ What teaching strategies need to be considered with the diversity of students in the class.
€¢ Provide an outline of the shape of the lesson,
€¢ Indicate how you would include all students in the class in the learning experiences.
€¢ What additional resources may be required?
Part b) (Total 1000 words)
Five pieces of assessment can be found in the uploaded file. All components of this must be completed. Each piece of assessment is taken from a student’s work from each of the stages and in Creative Arts strands.
This task requires you to develop an arts assessment schedule for these 5 samples of Creative Arts. All of the following categories must be completed when addressing this task.
€¢ Detail the assessment categories you will use to assess this piece of work
€¢ Provide samples of the types of records you will keep
€¢ Provide samples of the type of feedback you would provide to the student/parent about how the student could improve their work
€¢ Explain your reasons for choosing these particular strategies
The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of the strategies and philosophy of assessing learning in the Creative Arts.
The subject objectives addressed include:
-exemplify competence in the presentation of learning experiences which illustrate a differentiated curriculum that meets the diverse needs of learners in the Creative Arts classroom;
-be able to illustrate understanding of artistic conceptual development through the design of sequenced, integrated lesson sequences as delineated in the NSW Creative Arts syllabus;
-be able to recognise the role, value and place of the Creative Arts key learning area in the broader school curriculum and the relationship between this key learning area and numeracy, literacy and ICT.

€¢ Marking criteria
Students will be assessed on their capacity to:
appropriately modify a teaching and learning program, use technology creatively, meet the needs of diverse learners, appropriately assess the arts, appropriately record arts achievement, provide appropriate feedback for arts achievement, outline a considered arts assessment philosophy and present the ideas in a clear professional form

 

Rationale
The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of the strategies and philosophy of assessing learning in the Creative Arts.
