Argumentative essay (sweatshops)

Argumentative essay (sweatshops)
Paper One: Are Sweatshops Good or Bad?
For paper one, you can look at sweatshops in a couple of ways:
1) Are sweatshops good or bad in general?
2) Are sweatshops good or bad for the people whose country has the sweatshops?
3) Are sweatshops bad for America?
First Paragraph: Introduction
? with your Thesis (Claim€“this is what you believe€“the rest of the paper is trying to prove
your claim)
? acknowledge the other side (tell an instance where they may be right)
? Hook to grab reader’s attention
Second Paragraph: Reason #1 why you believe the way you do
? use facts, stats, examples from the readings, videos, etc.
Third Paragraph: Reason #2 why you believe the way you do
? use facts, stats, examples from the readings, videos, etc.
Fourth Paragraph: Reason #3 why you believe the way you do
? use facts, stats, examples from the readings, videos, etc.
Fifth paragraph: Conclusion
? Summarize your argument
? Predict what will happen in the future
? Offer solutions to the problem
Do not feel constrained to the five paragraph formula; you can write more, NOT LESS, and do so in more
paragraphs. For example, if you want to talk about the health impact of working in a sweatshop, you
can talk about it in terms of the workers and the products that may harm consumers in two different
paragraphs under the same reason.
