Application Assignments

Unit One                                                                                

Change one of your behaviors for one day.  Examples will be provided in class. The more creative you are, the more fun you will have with this. Do not, however, do anything that might harm you or someone else.  You must submit a photograph along with your reaction paper as evidence that you completed this assignment. How did this make you feel?  How did others respond to you?  What did you learn from your experience?  Type one page detailing the above outcomes and apply three key terms from your text.   (Refer to Chapter 14).

Unit Two

You will view the video How Does the Brain Work? By Nova Science Now.  How do we focus?  How are we so easily distracted?  What did you gain from watching this clip?  Apply three key terms from your text. (Refer to Chapter 2).

Unit Three                                                                            

Identify one of your own conditioned behaviors.  Examples will be discussed in class.  Type one page describing this behavior, how you think it came to be, and whether or not you would like to take steps to change it. Incorporate three key terms from your text. (Refer to Chapter 5).

Unit Four                                                                              

Take an online personality assessment.  Again, examples sites will be provided in class.  Please print and submit the last page, along with a two paragraphs describing your reaction to the results.  Did you agree or disagree?  What about issues of reliability and validity?  How could it be improved? (Refer to Chapter 10).

Unit Five

Think back over the topics discussed in our class and in your textbook.  What have you gained from taking this course?  Please be specific (it helps to review your notes). What lessons will you carry with you in the future?  How has an introductory course in psychology impacted your life?  Please submit a one-page (typed) reaction paper.

NO HAND-WRITTEN WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.  If you do not own a computer or are unable to print, please feel free to utilize the PIRC (directions and hours will be provided).

Any extra-credit completed for each unit will only be accepted if both assignments are turned in on test day (Applications and labs)!  Please indicate Extra-Credit” at the top of the assignment for full points.
