2. Through the writing of analytical essays and a research paper, students will demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information to support ideas or arguments.

4. Through the completion of a research paper, students will demonstrate their ability to locate reliable, relevant sources, integrate source material into their writing, and utilize correct MLA documentation.

Directions:

For this assignment students will construct and submit an annotated bibliography consisting of at least ten (10) secondary sources formatted according to MLA standards and featuring relevant annotations as outlined below. The annotated bibliography will be graded using the rubric.

Students will use their DRQ to identify secondary sources relevant to their study of online learning. For the FtF (MW) classes, your focus is on branding/marketing.

Most students will not be conducting original research, rendering this annotated bibliography a synthesis assignment. This means that students are to take their ideas about online learning (as developed in the previous stages of the project) and seek out related articles and information. All information should be used critically, that is it should not just be tossed into a paper, draft, or outline. Here is a worksheet that might help you.

Students will include at least ten (10) but no more than fifteen (15) sources to be used in the essay. By the final draft of the essay, these sources may change. This is not a binding contract for use in the essay. Rather, it is a jumping off point to enter the conversation.

Sources may come from any number of places (library, GALILEO, the Internet, etc.) and in a number of different formats (print books and journals, digital journals, ebooks, online resources that are not digital journals or ebooks).

The annotated bibliography should have a brief, prose introduction that eases readers into an explanation of the context of the assignment, including the DRQ, strategies for searching and locating sources, and other relevant information.

Each annotation should address four facets: 1) MLA style works cited entry, 2) Summary of the work, 3) Evaluation of the work, 4) Integration of the work.
