American Dance Therapy Association

This will be needed in order to complete assignment below. I chose the following websites: American Dance Therapy Association, American Psychiatric Association, and International Association of Counselors and Therapists. These websites cover topics within the field of psychology, nevertheless, each website focuses on different themes, for which they can be compared for similarities and differences. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) website represents world’s largest psychiatric organization. Giving that the APA objectives is to promote scientific development in our understanding of mental pathology, psycho-education and quality treatment, the theme of the website is broad-covering topics of research in mental health and psychotherapy.

The International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT) website covers topics of psychotherapy, advocating a holistic approach for the treatment of psychopathologies. This website serves especially for clinicians who which to exchanges ideas, information, techniques or methodologies, as it contains a forum. American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) website belongs to the American Dance Therapy Association, an organization which promotes dance therapy. This association claims within the website that certain dance movements can be helpful for the treatment of many psychological disorders, as these movements are supposed to provide a biopsychosocial integration of the individual. It can be noticed that all websites share a common theme: psychotherapy. Nevertheless, the APA website covers a much broader area of topics than the other two websites-its theme been general, as it contains material of scientific research in psychopathology and psychoeducation (materials that provide knowledge of psychopathologies and treatments). On the other hand, the ACT website has as its main theme psychotherapy, specifically a holistic approach in psychotherapy, having a less broad area of topics than the APA website, but less specific than the ADTA website. The ADTA website has its main theme as a specific type of psychotherapy-dance therapy, and covers topics that belong or are related to its main theme. For the purpose of this discussion, let’s assume a professional from each organization should answer to the question ‘’ How would a professional in your organization contribute to the treatment of depression?”. I believe that a professional from APA would argue that each professional at APA contributes with scientific data or clinical judgments to the broad range of topics that are covered by the website, suggesting that the scientific articles provided at the APA website serve as powerful information to be communicated between researchers and clinicians as well, hence enhancing the probability of developing better treatments for depression. A professional from IACT will likely consider that his/her organization allows clinicians to communicate with each other, therefore all members of the organization can provide new information or ideas, constructing a more effective holistic approach in the treatment of depression. A professional from ADTA will probably believe that dance therapy is an effective psychotherapy for depression, for which clinicians that belong to ADTA could practice dance therapy with depressed individuals, or could teach other clinicians to do so. In this section, you will demonstrate your awareness of the psychological career alternatives in a community setting and take on the role of two experts in different fields of psychology. You will also evaluate contributions of psychological research in the applied context of these experts and discuss methodological issues unique to their areas of psychological research.

Section 2: You will need this concept to complete assignment below. Case Study: Evaluating Ashford University Institutional and Program Outcomes

Prior to completing this assignment, read the Ashford University Institutional Outcomes located on the Syllabus page for this course. Additionally, read the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Program Outcomes (pg. 248) located within the Online Undergraduate Programs section of the Ashford University 2013-2014 Academic Catalog.

After reviewing the information provided above, you will create a two- to three-page case study focusing on professional and personal scenarios (they can be real or hypothetical) in which you evaluate your learning as it contributes to the overall attainment of Ashford University’s institutional outcomes and the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program outcomes.

In the body of your paper:

1. Discuss the Ashford University institutional outcomes and the program outcomes by identifying their relevance to a profession in psychology. 2. Create one personal life example and one career example in which you (or a fictitious person) struggle with personal challenges and an ethical dilemma (e.g., a client or research subject reveals compromising information about a friend or family member who also happens to be someone you know in a personal/social context). 3. After identifying the problem, include a section wherein you address each of the following prior to making a decision about a course of action: o From your point of view, what is the problem? o From the point of view of other individuals, what is the problem? o What are the options? What are potential consequences of the options? o What are the risks of each potential solution? o What are the risks of not resolving the challenges effectively? o What evidence/data do you have to assist you in decision making? 4. Apply the competencies gained at Ashford University (from the institutional and program outcomes) to identify the preferred resolutions to the situations you identified in #2 above. Select at least three competencies that are most relevant to your scenarios. Be specific in your discussion of the scenarios and provide details demonstrating professional problem solving in your case study. 5. Conclude the case study with how you resolved the problem (the outcome) and what you learned while at Ashford University that assisted you in deciding on an effective resolution. You may also identify additional competencies used to resolve the problem that are not included in the institutional and program outcomes. 6. Utilize at least one scholarly source as a basis for the evidence you will use to rationalize the decision-making process. All sources must be documented in APA style, as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center.
