Responsibility refers to liability, answerability as well as the prospect of account giving, and blameworthiness. Therefore, in the nursing profession code of ethics the nurses roles are clearly outlined and the aftermath of their actions. Patients in this case are aware of their choice to take legal actions against the caregiver professionals. If anything happens the nurse is held responsible, and for the purpose of finding out a solution to what happened, the caregiver in question shall be approached to find a solution if need arises.

There are different levels of people to whom the caregivers are answerable to: these levels include patients, employers, public and the profession. The caregiver is accountable to the patient mainly through a duty of being concerned who is underlined by a duty to support safety, efficiency and through their legal roles. Responsibility to the employer is described by the bond description and employment of the job. In this aspect the pact includes the terms of employment, what was agreed upon during the interview and the signed documents to indicate that the caregiver has agreed to everything. To the profession responsibility is seen in terms of sticking to the regulations and rules, improving professionalism knowledge and competence.

Nurses need to start by first being accountable to themselves, so as to be made responsible to their profession. They can attain this through keeping a reflective diary. This is one way of being responsible for one’s own thoughts and actions which help in improving and questioning the quality of provided concern. There is a need for balancing and recognizing a variety of points of view on what makes up adequate care standards. This is to ensure that adequate services are offered and that patients get what they deserve. It is thus the sole task of every nurse to carry out all activities having in mind that there are outcomes that are dealt and faced with individually. This helps them undertake their roles effectively so as to satisfy their clients and prevent getting into problems that have a risk to their positions professionally.
