A good communicator
Jo Ann Shemwell is a new first-line supervisor for the Pro Sports, inc. Nashville, Tennessee
manufacturing facility. Pro Sports is a leading producer ofsports gear, mainly football, baseball and
basketball equipment and clothing and serves the entire southeast region of the U.S. She was hired
from outside the company and will have to win the trust and confidence of her new team members that
typically averages in number about 12-15 workers. She plans to begin by getting to know her team
members and she wants them to know her well. She was hired as a supervisor because of her technical
skills and past experience in working at another equipment manufacturing company for four years. Jo
Ann realizes that she has never really been required in her formerjobs to be good communicator, but
she believes that in her past job that she interacted well with her coworkers and had several friends at
her former job. What advice can you provide that would help Jo Ann be an effective communicator in
her new role?
