Discussion Board Sessions:
You must post at least two posts for each discussion session to receive full credit.
?Original posts: Original posts to each discussion session should be a minimum of 350 words.
This requirement helps promote writing that is both thorough and yet concise enough to permit other students to read all the posts. First person is allowed in your posts.

?Interaction posts(interactive) Not everyone has the same opinions, ideas and/or backgrounds;
Therefore, you are to reply to at least one original thread by your classmates.
The interaction post should be at least 200 words.

Comments on Posts: Please note that ?I like what you said?, ?That?s a good comment?, and ?I disagree with your comment? in and of themselves do not count as a complete reply. Rather, stating why you liked or disliked the comment, adding additional thoughts or ideas to the original comment, or providing alternative ideas/thoughts when you disagree, count as a reply (interaction post). Courtesy in any disagreement is expected; thus, personal attacks or calling an idea ?stupid? are not acceptable and will reduce your grade.

Seelig, T. (2012). InGenius: A Crash Course on Creativity. HarperOne.

NOTE: Please review the Discussion Board Rules and Evaluation on the Course Menu before you post your responses.
Role of constraints and habitat in creativity.
Read Ch. 6-7 in Tina Seelig’s ‘inGenius” and this short BBC article Secret Goolge Lab Rewards Staff for Failure(http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-25880738). Make sure to watch the video (~5 min) embedded in the article. Answer the following questions:
1. Ch. 6: In this chapter, Seelig provides four possible scenarios of how pressure affects creativity (see the two-by-tow matrix on p. 106). Which scenario fits the Google Secret Lab? Justify your answer with specific examples from the readings and the video. Pay special attention to the role of fear, constraints, and rapid prototyping in your discussion of the Google Secret Lab.
2. Ch. 6 (cont.). Review the examples of flash fiction on pp. 112-113. Introduce or describe yourself in six words using the four examples on p. 113 as templates for your answer. For example, here’s how I’d introduce or describe myself in six words, “Love to live, learn, and laugh.” Tina Seelig claims that severe limitations or constraints often sharpen our imagination and enhance creativity and innovation. What do you think about this claim? Use your six-word introduction/description as evidence to support your answer.
3. Ch. 7: According to Seelig, what is the role of rules, rewards, and punishments in creativity and innovation? Do you agree or disagree with her arguments? Provide at least one example from the chapter and one example from your personal/professional experience to support your answer.

Here?s the meaning behind the grades your peers and I will use to assess the presentations. You can use these comments as clues about how to work toward a higher grade. Discussion postings that meet ALL criteria for a grade level will receive the highest points possible at that level. Postings that meet mixed levels of criteria will receive a score within the point range of the appropriate levels.
