information such as authorship, date, and original audience €“ as well as a
summary of the book’s content. Students may draw data from Sumney’s book (Jerry L. Sumney, The Bible an Introduction
though they are also expected to consult at least one other scholarly source in the process of writing each synopsis. A scholarly source means a book, article, or
essay that has been made available by a credible publisher in the field of biblical
studies. Websites do not count unless they contain such a document. Some
notable scholarly commentaries on various books of the Bible (published in
multiple volumes) include:
