We should attend College

When I first enrolled into college, my parents always reminded me that I was on my way to succeeding in life. On the other hand, spent numerous moments with my friends debating whether one should attend college or start a business instead. After many days of debating, we came to the conclusion that attending college was a better thing to do.

Attending College gives one a better chance of succeeding in life as it gives one better career opportunities and enhances personal growth. Teachers here in college never tire of reminding us how lucky it was of us to be in college. It’s common to hear lecturers remind us that attending college is the best shot we have at succeeding in life. Is college such an important step in succeeding in life, or is it just another overrated phase in human life?

Attending college enables one secure better career opportunities. Most careers these days have a college degree as a requirement for one to secure employment. Only on rare occasions do they employ people without college degrees. Those with degrees have more options when it comes to acquiring employment as compared to those who don’t. Most degree holders can be absorbed in a wide range of industries. Non degree holders, on the other hand, can only fit in a very few industries. Even when they secure a career opening, it’s mostly a blue collar job. Most companies prefer employing college graduates, as opposed to high school diploma holders.

Once into the jobs college degree holders find it easier to rise through the ranks as compared to non degree holders. This is because they come into employment with the necessary theoretical grounding necessary for solving day to day problems at work. Non graduates, on the other hand, have no theoretical backing hence find it hard to anticipate problems at work.College instruction makes it easier for one to grasp new concepts at workplace. For this reason, a college graduate has higher chances of getting promoted and making it in life.

College education has no age limit. This means one can acquire it even at old age. Any person in disregard of age, who wants to better his chances at work, is allowed to improve his skills. College is probably the only institution that offers equal chances of progress to both the young and the old. For instance, My class is composed of both the young people like me, as well as the older ones. College gives one a second chance at life. If one had made a bad choice of not attending college in his youth, he could still reverse the decision by attending and acquiring a degree even in old age.

Other than career related advancement, college education greatly boosts one personal growth. College education changes one understands of the socio-economic setting within which he lives. One can better notice opportunities both in business as well as in social events and utilizes them to improve himself. With the knowledge one gain in college, it is easier to overcome the challenges that crop up in life and business. These include inflation, recession and changes in technology among others. Knowledge acquired in one discipline may be applicable even in the domestic setting. College education not only imparts new knowledge on the students, but it also encourages them to explore new ideas. During interactions in college, people create networks that help them navigate life later.

There are those who argue that college education is too expensive hence an unnecessary burden. This is not true. The benefits that one gain from attending college cannot be compared to the expense. They are much more than the expense. Everyone benefits from education, including those who never go into formal employment. They employ the ideas gained into their other activities. Neither does college education take too much time. Acquiring it takes only a few years and serves one for a lifetime. Hence spending a few years in college is worth it. Some people do make it without college education, but these are very few compared to those who do not.

That attending college gives one a better chance of succeeding in life as it gives one better career opportunities and enhances personal growth is a proven fact. Although some people succeed without ever attending college, it is still the surest way to succeed in life. This explains why all nations insist on college education. It’s true; college life gives one a better chance of succeeding in life.
