MA TOURISM MANAGEMENT
MODULE: TOURISM POLICY AND DESTINATION MANAGEMENT
The topic for the report is:
Critically evaluate a recent tourism strategy or destination management plan based on ONE of the following themes:
1. the historical DEVELOPMENT of the destination and the developmental and competitive issues now facing the destination,
2. current destination MARKETING and BRANDING,
3. current destination MANAGEMENT, focusing on the DMO model, management structures and partnerships
Use academic ideas and theories to help your analysis. Discuss how the plan or strategy could be improved, making specific recommendations.
You can choose to consider a tourism strategy or a destination management plan at national, regional or local level, in any country in the world. You are encouraged to select somewhere you are familiar with. You will need to ensure that there is an English Language version of the strategy or plan. You must be able to obtain SUFFICIENT INFORMATION about the plan or policy and necessary background information such as visitor statistics and data. The task here is not to carry out primary research, so you need to be able to access useful secondary (published) information. It is essential that you check that you can obtain the necessary information. (You may not focus on following destinations since they were examined in other modules : Hackney, Kent , Dubai, Bilbao ,Malta ).
