Tobacco smoking as a crime during the Ottoman.

Tobacco smoking was a crime during the Ottoman reign and all the other leaders supported and outlawed its use. As such, the people developed means of keeping their nicotine doses high by creating the Medwakh pipe, which could easily be carried around without being detected. More also, the blend of aromatic herbs used in the tobacco facilitated the disguise and prevented unnecessary attention. The “Medwakh” is a small tobacco pipe with a small bowl, much smaller than the traditional western tobacco pipe, and it originates from Arabia. The Medwakh is used to smoke ‘dokha,’ a filtered Iranian tobacco that is blended with herbs, barks, spices, and other high nicotine contents. The origin of this pipe is, however, controversial since the Arabs claim that they developed the Medwakh pipe as well as the dokha, and the Iranians makes the same claims.

The Medwakh

The Medwakh are crafted from various materials including wood, bones, marbles, gold, plastics, glass, and several other kinds of metals, which are then customized to suit the taste of the smoker. Subsequently, these pipes may be incorporated with some other precious items like diamonds and gemstones, with symbol inscriptions on them. Thesome could be split into parts that can easily be cleaned while others have twin bowls or twin shafts.

Conclusion

As much as Medwakh smoking is commonly used parts of the Arabian world, its popularity is rapidly growing all over the world as people appreciate its uniqueness.
