This exercise is designed to enable students to gai
n experience in the detailing of reinforced
concrete and to use AutoCAD to detail a reinforced
 concrete retaining wall structure.
At the end of this assignment a student should:
 •
Understand the principles involved in detailing rei
 nforced concrete; and
 •
Have experience of producing a AutoCAD drawing of a
 retaining wall structure

 Details:
All  civil  engineering  students  need  to  have  an  unde
rstanding  of  how  reinforced  concrete  is
detailed and the process of producing a reinforced
 concrete drawing.
The following is to be undertaken:
 1.      Use the drawing frame that you produced in Exer
cise No 2. Ensure that the drawing title
 box is filled out.
 2.     Using the information within the instruction sli
des on VITAL, produce an AutoCAD drawing
that contains sufficient information to build the r
etaining wall. This drawing should include
 the following components:
 a)
A cross section showing the layout of the wall, inc
 luding all dimensions, levels,
inserts and adjacent features (drainage and ground
 levels) and intended position of
 reinforcing bars.
 b)
A front elevation of the retaining wall which conta
ins the main call-ups for the
 reinforcing bars.
 c)
An enlarged detail of the coping beam.
 d)
A set of notes to complete the information needed t
