Theories of poverty

Theories of poverty
heories about why poverty or inequalities exist may draw on individual, social or structural arguments. Such explanations inform and justify policy responses. The second part of the paper is a critical analysis of policy implications that derive from two competing explanations on the cause of the economic condition or social inequality examined in Part I.

Analysis drawn from readings for this course, the Intellectual Foundations (Hub) course, or external sources may be useful in developing this argument. Sources should be cited appropriately.

This paper should be four to seven double-spaced pages and include the following elements,

•Identify two competing or complementary theories from course reading materials or other research.
•Describe each theoretical approach and apply it to the situation described in Part I
•Describe policy responses that derive from each theoretical approach (or at least begin this description).
