The National Organization for Women.

Women’s’ movements were very vibrant during the 1960s especially in the United States both culturally and politically. Some of the movements were national organizations, campaigns for equal, reproductive rights, and many other reforms. The movements were important ant as they gave way to for women to participate in professions and blue-collar jobs initially associated with masculinity. The movements created the gender balance and open discussions of issues considered private before. However, not all equality as achieved as women still dominate most of the household chores, have low-paying jobs, and the imbalance between men and women still exists. Mass women’s movements are no longer there since the beginning of the era of organizations that acts on their behalf such as the National Organization for Women.

Opposition to women demands also led to the decline in the backsliding of the women’s movement in many forms such as silence and backlash in legal attacks on the actions taken, and the media portrayal of some women. There were also a lot of opposition from politicians, employers, and bureaucrats in the private and the public arena. The job evaluators were keen on increasing women’s

There were also employment and economic changes by capitalists aimed at achieving flexibility, maximize profits, and make the movement weak. Males were opposed to payrise for women, as they wanted them to remain inferior to them in all aspects. There are many changes

continuous attack on feminism and the decline of the other activist’s movements that encouraged women to demand their rights. There is a big decline in the Black Power Movements and the civil rights such that they have weakened. The other groups such as the gay and lesbian rights groups nowadays have no direction and the movement’s leaders are not willing to discuss the problems facing movements in the public. The movement leaders are not ready to discuss the weaknesses of the movements for fear that the spirit of feminism could disappear. The failure to discuss the challenges facing the movements has led to more disintegration since the problem keeps on widening. In the earlier time feminism, movements worked closely with the anti-slavery and the other protest movements during the civil are. When the civil war as over many abandoned it as the suffrage went to the former slaves. Omen groups involved themselves with other issues such as racism, anti-immigrants arguments, and woman suffrage.

In my opinion, are other things that could have led to the downfall of the omen’s movements such as the formation of other non-profit organizations fighting for various issues such as the nature of the current jobs. Many women are now working and comfortable in their careers with little time for mass action as it as in the 1970s. The economic situation in the modern times is difficult with everyone trying to make ends meet as inflation makes several basic needs unavoidable for many. As a result, feminists have left the fight for women rights to organizations with paid professionals to speak for women. Many people now believe that communication, building alliance, and organized groups are the only things that can bring about change and not the mass movement.

Women have risen to their consciousness and formed the Young Women Empowerment Projects, Student Action with Farmworkers in Durham, and Domestic Workers United to deal with matters concerning women rights. Forming a group with a singular feminist agenda in these days is close to impossibility meaning women movements may never work as before. Many women are now focusing on furthering their careers and education more than on feminism agenda due to the current economic difficulties. The advanced technology is also a factor as many women can meet their colleagues via the social media and air their issues and can reach the women rights organizations via the same technology. Others discuss their disturbing issues through the radio, televisions, and magazines. Furthermore, every country has organizations that address women’s issues without necessarily engaging in mass action as it as in the 1970s. These explanations are more convincing as they reflect the reality of the modern day times and the influence of technology on tradition methods of addressing issues concerning women.

According to Acker and Epstein women movements, declined due to the decline in the feminism support as women demanded equal rights. The movements that do exist do not want to discuss their problems in public posing a threat to their progress. Jo Freeman argues that the cause of the movement’s failure is the confusion about the real meaning of social movement. Many people think that social movements are due to a collective behavior and that of interest group and party formation. Jo disagrees with the ideas and argues that feminism serves as the focus for the values and the activities of the social group. The women groups have gone through radicalization and reform and not the opposition to women’s demands, backsliding, or the economic changes.

In conclusion, women groups have greatly changed in their operations and are now organized with permanent employees to speak on behalf of women. The movement enabled women to have better opportunities such as good jobs with good salaries. Equality has not been achievedstill exist as some have low-paying jobs. Politicians, employers, and private employers also opposed women organizations that fought for harmonized salaries and high pay rises.
