The Caux Principals

Facebook is pushing for the improved wages and other benefits for the janitors, such as cooks and other subordinate staff who support its senior employees.Sheryl Sandberg, who is the Facebook’s chief operating officer, communicated the change in a blog post. The new requirement provides that the minimum wage will be $15 an hour, at least 15 paid days off annually and $4,000 allowance for new parents who don’t receive paid parental leave. This announcement is perfectly in line with theCaux Principals human dignity consideration, which recognizes the value of each as an end, not a means to the fulfillment of others’ purposes:the men and women who work with us throughout the world. Everyone must be considered as an individual. will must be fairly done and adequate, and working conditions clean, orderly and safe. Employees must be assured of freedom of expression so that they can feel free to make suggestions for those qualified. We must provide competent management, and their actions must be just ethical. This move comes amid the country wide pressure to pay low wage staff at least 15$ per hour. This concern has been prominent in the Silicon Valley, where the gap between the salary paid to the junior and the senior staff is widening. The movement has concentrated its focus on the technology giant companies such as Apple, Google, and Facebook. “Taking these steps is the right thing to do for our business and our community,” wrote Sandberg. Sandberg noted that women constitute two-thirds of minimum wage employees countrywide, and hence will be the majority who will be positively affected by this wage adjustment.

The notable banker&Philanthropist Agha Hassan Abedi, he conventional as getting work done through people. But he noted that real management is developing people through work.Hence, by recognizing this important concept, Facebook has come up with this strategy to develop its workers this will ultimately enhance their productivity.

research has also proved that adequately remunerated workers are happier in life and ultimately become more productive at the workplace.Facebook did not disclose the number of its workers, who would be affected by the new policy. security personnel and other workers employed by outside contractors. Sandberg said that the d kick off starting May 1, 2015. The new standards will also apply to Facebook’s shuttle drivers. Although the drivers had earlier voted to unionize with Teamsters and Rome Aloise, the vice president for Teamsters noted that the starting wage for any of the contracts they offer is already more than $15 per hour. As such, he commended Facebook forexhibiting themselves as responsible corporate citizens. The vice president called upon the other technological companies to follow suit.distinctive competence. We conclude this from the fact that it is the first online social media to initialize a competitively significant activity that makes it better off compared to its competitors. Firstly, it implies that Facebook represents a competitively valuable capability that its rivals do not have.Secondly, Facebook presents an attractive potential for being a cornerstone of the strategy.Additionally, Facebook will take the advantage of first mover advantage, in the sense that there will be little competition since it will maintain most of its workers owing to the better package. However, there are several challenges to seeing the move implemented. One such challenge is the costs factor.Such costs include the cost of technology development, costs of market development, infrastructure costs, and the cost of learning & eliminating defects. The organizing director of the push for $15, remarked, “If Facebook can raise pay to $15, so can McDonald’s”. (“Facebook Pushes to Improve Benefits, Pay for Contractors – ABC News,” n.d.)

Criticism

Despite the Facebook’s move to increase its wages, we note that this value is still slightly below the wages of several other companies. For example, the hourly rate of Earth Friendly ProductsCompany has been $17 since 2014. The company also provides a bonus of a week’s pay to all its employees. The employees also have the opportunity to receive$2500 to help them purchase a hybrid or any other green vehicleof their choicein their homes. As we can see, this is a far much better package than what Facebook is offering.

The $15 minimum hourly wage law has also been in Seattle city, with effect from 1 April 2015. Owing to this, we can conclude that Facebook has taken rather too long to implement the policy.
