SYNTHESIS of Animal Liberation by Peter Singer &Animal Liberation:’ A Critique by Michael Fox

Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to build an argument by synthesizing sources.

Assignment: In a thesis-driven essay, respond to the following question: Should we afford animals
the same rights as humans? You may also respond to the following: Should we afford animals only
certain rights? If so, what are they? If not, why do you think they shouldn’t be afforded the same
rights? To do so, you’ll draw connections between at least two of the sources we’ve discussed in
class (also listed below on the schedule). Using techniques of argument, counterargument,
comparison and contrast, refutation, and exemplification, you’ll build your argument. You should
not use any other outside sources.
