Project instructions:
1) Pick out a few statistics on stratification and poverty from this week?s readings that you found interesting and explain them.

2) Describe the basics of the two primary theories on inequality (functionalist or conflict). How do functionalists explain stratification and poverty? How do conflict theorists explain it?

3) Do you agree more with functionalist or conflict theories to explain stratification? Why? If you could wave your magic wand and lower or eliminate poverty in America, how would you do this? What kinds of things would you change to alleviate poverty? Would you change public policy? Individual behavior/attitudes? Give specific examples ? I want to see a lot of sociological imagination here!

4) Rank argues that the government isn?t doing enough to help prevent poverty. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?
