Stem Cell Research 2 Health

Stem Cell Research 2 Health
Project description
Program Learning Outcome Assessment-Final Paper

Information Literacy Signature Assignment

Prompt

There is tremendous debate over the proper scope of the term or topic of _stem cell research_, and this in turn has created a wide variety of different sources of information. Some of these sources ( scholarly ) are strongly based in mainstream scientific research by psychologists, educators, and other specialists and adhere to strict standards of scientific conduct and publishing etiquette. Other sources ( non-scholarly ) are speculative, subjective, or biased sources that may be strongly believed by their creators, but are lacking empirical support or may just be for entertainment purposes.

Your assignment will be to find 5 sources on stem cell research with at least one source qualifying (in your opinion) as scholarly from a empirically based scientific publication and one that is non-scholarly from the internet, magazine, or newspaper.

You will then need to write an essay/paper explaining your research experience, your evaluation of the articles you labeled as either scholarly or non-scholarly resources, and provide the full reference information (so I can find it too). The reference information/citations will need to be typed in APA format, and you will need to provide a hyperlink to each if they were from the internet.

Specific Instructions

Part I

1. Research the topic of stem cell research and select and print at least 5 sources of information (articles, etc€¦).

2. Evaluate the source, context, and credibility of each article using the criteria described in the Evaluating Sources Handout and Source Comparison Rubric provided.

3. Based on what you have learned in this class, select one article that is, in your opinion, scholarly and one that is non-scholarly.

Part II

4. Write a 3 to 5 page essay/paper containing the following components:

a. For the first part of your essay/paper, explain the process in which you researched this topic. For example, what research methods did you use (internet, library search engine, etc€¦)? What key terms or phrases did you use to search for information on this topic?

b. Then for each article (based on the article’s source, context, and credibility), explain your reasons for labeling each source as either scholarly or non-scholarly. Explain the factors you think are indicators of the articles quality, why you think it would be more (or less) less credible or objective than your other sources, and highlight the article’s strong (or weak) aspects.

c. On the last page of your essay/paper, provide a citation and direct hyperlink to the articles chosen. The reference information/citations will need to be typed in APA format, and you will need to provide a hyperlink to each if they were from the internet

d. Turn in a copy of your two articles and your essay to me .
