Using concepts presented in class and readings from this term, you are to answer in essay format the following question:
As many scholars and cultural critics have argued, the concept and presence of a “Canadian culture” is debatable. With current trends in government and the market questioning the role of Canadian content in cultural subsidies, the question of “Do we have a Canadian culture?” persists. Using extraneous scholarly sources, i.e., not the course textbook, argue whether Canada has a culture of its own, whether independent of or contingent on American, British, et al. cultures. In no more than sixteen hundred (1600) words, argue your position but be sure to identify, define, explain, and apply all concepts, theories, and constructs introduced in your paper; do not introduce anything that is not clearly explicated. You are required to research your argument and use extraneous sources; you must cite and source at least five (5) scholarly texts (not including the textbook) but no more than ten (10) to support your arguments.
