Moira is a single parent who looks after Kirsty her 4 year old daughter who is physically disabled. Moira left her partner because he had been violent towards her. Since then he has had no contact with his daughter and has provided no financial support to Moira. Moira and Kirsty have been regular attenders at their local family centre since Kirsty was born. Adam, a support worker at the centre, has seen that Moira takes her responsibilities as a Mum very seriously, but can also see that she struggles at times with the demands of caring for a child with a disability. Moira is also very aware of being a single parent and tries to be independent in all she does. Adam has spent a lot of time helping Moira to develop her confidence and finds it encouraging that she is setting up a support group for other women in similar situations. (d) Use key features from one of the following theories to analyse any aspect of the case study: symbolic interactionist theory or feminist theory. 4 6
