This week we will be starting on the literature review section of your proposal. The literature review section is a large component of a typical proposal and generally is several pages long and contains anywhere from 20 to 100 sources. Your will contain a minimum of 3 acceptable academic sources. That means it will be about 3 to 5 paragraphs long.
We are going to write the literature review in 2 steps. This week we will work on finding and evaluating articles. Next week we will be writing the first draft of the literature review. First read This will help you evaluate the resources you need. Next locate articles about your topic using the library databases This is another useful resource Hints use journals that are specific to your topic. Use keywords that are specific- when you find articles look at the search terms that they list and use some of those to expand your search
If you have signed into your library databases you can search in google scholar and it will provide a direct link when you find an article that is in the library data bases. Once you have found 5 to 7 articles evaluate them using the questions in section 4 of the how to read a scientific paper article. Additionally answer the following question for each article- does this article address my topic in a what that is useful for me to write a literature review? Remember the goal is to find at least 3 articles to write a literature review with next week. If your answer to this last question is no for all of your articles you should refine your search terms and try again. Remember only academic articles are acceptable for this assignment. Turn in a list of the 5 to 7 articles you found with complete citations. Turn in your filled out questions for each of the articles. You will need at least 3 articles that I find acceptable for your topic in order to move on to the next step. |
